The NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S is a super-telephoto prime built for subjects far beyond the reach of a standard zoom. An 800mm focal length on Nikon Z mount brings distant wildlife, birds and sports action in close, with a narrow angle of view of just 3°10′ on FX format for tightly framed, isolated subjects.
A Phase Fresnel (PF) element combines with 3 ED glass elements across 22 elements in 14 groups to control chromatic aberration while keeping the lens more compact and lighter than a conventional 800mm design. Nano Crystal Coat and a fluorine coat on the front element help control flare, ghosting and smudging.
Nikon's VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization is built into the lens, helping keep handheld shots steady at this focal length. Autofocus with internal focusing and a minimum focus distance of 0.5m from the focal plane keep the lens responsive even at extreme range.
The front element is too large for conventional screw-in filters, so this lens uses a rear slip-in filter holder that accepts 46mm filters instead, keeping filtration simple without adding bulk to the front of the lens.
